Milan tried to sign Brazilian starlet André through a swift move, but the transfer quickly became more complicated.

AC Milan’s attempt to swiftly acquire promising Brazilian midfielder André has hit unexpected roadblocks, turning what initially seemed like a straightforward transfer into a complex negotiation. According to ESPN Brazil (via Calciomercato), the Rossoneri and Corinthians had reached an agreement for €15 million, plus €2 million in add-ons, to secure 70 percent of the player’s economic rights.

André, who reportedly holds the remaining 30 percent of his rights, had agreed to relinquish them to smooth the transfer, with a potential move planned for after the upcoming World Cup. However, Corinthians president Osmar Stabile is now reportedly refusing to finalize the agreement, reportedly seeking improved terms and facing pressure from the club’s fanbase.

Milan now finds itself in a precarious position as other representatives within Corinthians had already accepted and signed the binding offer for André, agreeing to all specific details, including payment installments and future clauses. Furthermore, Corinthians would also be entitled to 20 percent of any future transfer profit.

Should the chairman remain unyielding, the Rossoneri may be forced to pursue legal action, potentially escalating the matter to FIFA or the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Despite the current stalemate, André is reportedly set to sign a contract with Milan extending until 2031. The versatile midfielder has made 24 appearances for his current club, netting 4 goals, and is capable of playing in various midfield positions.

Our Take on Milan and André

It remains to be seen if Milan’s new hierarchy, perhaps under the influence of figures like Igli Tare, will exhibit greater patience when dealing with such complex transfer sagas. Historically, the club has often been quick to withdraw from deals encountering significant obstacles with other teams or player agents. This persistence suggests Milan views André as a significant bargain at the proposed price, which they likely won’t allow to inflate further. Nevertheless, it’s somewhat perplexing to see them prioritize another investment in this particular midfield role.
