AC Milan and Premier League club attempted to sign Roma’s new midfielder
According to reports, AC Milan and an unnamed Premier League club made last-minute attempts to sign Lucas Gourna-Douath, who had already agreed to join AS Roma. The 21-year-old French midfielder was a target for multiple clubs on transfer deadline day.
Sources indicate that Milan expressed interest in Gourna-Douath and tried to convince him to join them instead of Roma at the eleventh hour. An unspecified Premier League team also reportedly entered the race late to sign the promising young player from Red Bull Salzburg.
However, Gourna-Douath had already given his word to Roma’s sporting director Florent Ghisolfi and manager Claudio Ranieri. The player was committed to joining the Italian capital club and turned down the late approaches from Milan and the Premier League side.
Roma had been tracking Gourna-Douath for several months and reached an agreement to sign him on loan with an option to buy. He is now available for selection as Roma face Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
Despite missing out on Gourna-Douath, AC Milan were able to strengthen their midfield by signing Warren Bondo from Monza before the transfer window closed.
