As Sergio Conceicao`s departure from AC Milan appears inevitable, the club is actively searching for a new head coach. The list of potential candidates includes prominent Italian managers such as Maurizio Sarri, Roberto De Zerbi, Massimiliano Allegri, and Vincenzo Italiano.
The Rossoneri had already been considering a change in leadership, but Conceicao`s fate was sealed following the team`s 1-0 loss to Bologna in the Coppa Italia Final. This comes after Milan`s previous decisions to part ways with Stefano Pioli last year and Paulo Fonseca in December.
Milan`s Preference for Italian Expertise
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan is prioritizing Italian coaches with Serie A experience, especially given the current absence of a sporting director to assist in the transition. Vincenzo Italiano, who led Bologna to victory over Milan in the Coppa Italia, has emerged as a top contender. However, Italiano is currently in negotiations to extend his contract with Bologna.
Roberto De Zerbi is another name on Milan`s radar, but he seems unlikely to leave Olympique Marseille after securing Champions League qualification for the French club.
This situation leaves Milan considering free agents like Massimiliano Allegri, who appears closer to taking the Roma job, and Maurizio Sarri. Interestingly, this isn`t the first time Milan has shown interest in Sarri, with discussions dating back to Silvio Berlusconi`s presidency. The 66-year-old Sarri has been available since leaving Lazio in March 2024.
As Milan continues its search, the club faces the challenge of finding a coach who can lead them back to success in both domestic and European competitions.
