AC Milan finds itself in a peculiar situation, continuing to honor a €4 million per year contract for Divock Origi, the former Liverpool cult hero who has been conspicuously absent from the club’s training facility since the beginning of the 2024-25 season.

Origi, who played a crucial role in Liverpool’s Champions League victory in 2018-19 and their Premier League triumph in 2019-20, joined Milan on a four-year deal in 2022. However, his tenure at San Siro has been far from successful.

The Belgian international’s first season with Milan was disappointing, with only two goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, mostly as a substitute. A loan spell at Nottingham Forest for the 2023-24 season proved equally unfruitful, with Origi failing to score in 20 Premier League appearances.

Upon his return to Milan, Origi found himself excluded from the first-team plans. Despite being assigned to play for Milan Futuro in Serie C, he has yet to make an appearance for the team and has not participated in any first-team training sessions this season.
