Adrien Rabiot Slams Marseille Teammates for Lack of Champions League Ambition
Following Olympique de Marseille’s disappointing 3-1 loss to Reims, midfielder Adrien Rabiot voiced his frustration with some of his teammates’ apparent lack of enthusiasm for Champions League qualification. The defeat has cast doubt on Marseille’s chances of securing a top-three finish in Ligue 1 this season.
Speaking to the media after the match, Rabiot said, “It’s disheartening to see this attitude. We have goals to achieve, and this performance isn’t enough. I feel like I’m playing alongside individuals who aren’t motivated to compete in the Champions League or fight for that opportunity.”
The French international emphasized the significance of Champions League participation, stating, “The Champions League is a major achievement. Some players here have never experienced it and may never get the chance. I can’t comprehend why we’re not more determined on the pitch at the prospect of competing in this tournament next year. We need to adopt a different mindset. Other teams behind us are eager for the opportunity.”
Rabiot, who joined Marseille with the aim of playing Champions League football, added, “If others aren’t interested, they should make that clear before matches and allow those who are motivated to play.”
Following the loss, Marseille dropped to third place in the Ligue 1 standings after AS Monaco’s victory in the Côte d’Azur Derby against OGC Nice. With seven matches remaining in the season, Nice now trails Marseille by just two points in the race for Champions League qualification.
