Jhon Lucumi`s representative has made a public appeal to Bologna, urging them to reconsider their position on the defender`s potential move to Sunderland. This comes after the club stated that “the timing was not right” for the transfer.
Negotiations have been ongoing without success, as Bologna aims to retain their key players following the departures of Dan Ndoye and Sam Beukema. Bologna`s CEO, Claudio Fenucci, expressed to Il Resto del Carlino newspaper the club`s intention to reject further proposals from Sunderland.
Fenucci explained, “Jhon expressed a desire to leave, which is understandable. However, the offer`s timing was unfavorable. Had circumstances been different, we might have arranged something for him while retaining Sam. We don`t control the transfer market`s timing. At present, adequately replacing him is not feasible, so Jhon will remain with us.”
Lucumi Eager for Bologna Exit
In response, Lucumi`s agent, Simone Rondaini, issued a statement to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano:
“I`ve carefully considered the CEO`s words, for whom I have great respect, as I do for the club that has supported Jhon these past years. It`s natural to feel some disappointment, given our consistently human relationship with the club. Initially, our plan was for a two to three-year stay, recognizing Jhon`s continuous growth.”
“Last year, we were asked to stay, and we readily agreed. This year, however, the message has been clear from both sides since the season`s start: if a suitable offer came, Jhon would have the opportunity to transfer. I hope Bologna will reconsider and find a balanced solution beneficial for all parties. I understand the importance of both the club and the player, and I only ask that our request be given due consideration.”
While Lucumi was included in Vincenzo Italiano`s squad for the season opener against Roma, his participation remains uncertain.
