According to reports from Italy, Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah is preparing to submit a formal offer to Atalanta for Italian international striker Mateo Retegui. This move comes after the Saudi side`s unsuccessful attempts to sign Moise Kean and Jonathan David earlier in the transfer window.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Al-Qadsiah will present their bid for Retegui to Atalanta on Thursday. While the exact transfer fee has not been disclosed, it is believed that Atalanta values Retegui between €50-60 million internally.
The wealthy Saudi club has turned their attention to Retegui after failing to secure Kean at the end of June. Kean, who has a €52 million release clause in his Fiorentina contract, rejected Al-Qadsiah`s approach despite rumors of a lucrative offer worth €15-20 million per season.
Al-Qadsiah had also considered signing free agent Jonathan David, who is now expected to complete a medical with Juventus instead.
Retegui only joined Atalanta last summer, but his impressive performances have quickly attracted interest from clubs with significant financial resources. It remains to be seen whether Atalanta will be willing to part with their prized striker after just one season.
