Al Shabab Close to Signing Rennes Midfielder Glen Kamara
Reports suggest that Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab is in the final stages of negotiations to sign Glen Kamara, the 29-year-old midfielder currently playing for Stade Rennais in France. This potential move comes merely six months after Kamara joined Rennes from Leeds United.
Since his €10 million transfer to Rennes last summer, Kamara has struggled to make a significant impact, appearing in only 13 matches. The arrival of new manager Jorge Sampaoli has further complicated Kamara’s situation, with the player being excluded from recent matches following Rennes’ unexpected exit from the Coupe de France.
Rennes finds itself in a precarious position in Ligue 1, currently occupying the 16th spot and at risk of relegation. The club is actively seeking to reshape its squad to improve its standing in the second half of the season. Kamara’s potential departure could be part of this restructuring effort.
While Premier League clubs Southampton and Ipswich Town previously expressed interest in Kamara, it appears that Al Shabab has emerged as the frontrunner to secure his services. The Saudi Pro League continues to attract talent from European leagues, and Kamara could be the latest addition to this trend.
