Alberto Costa: Juventus’ New Promising Fullback Acquisition

Juventus has secured a promising talent for both present and future in Alberto Olivera Baio, commonly known as Alberto Costa. The Italian giants managed to acquire the young fullback from Vitoria Guimaraes, where he was under contract until 2028, for a fee of €15 million (€12.5 million plus €2.5 million in bonuses).

Born in 2003 in Santo Tirso, Portugal, Costa has already faced Serie A competition, notably holding Fiorentina to a 1-1 draw in a recent Conference League match. Standing at over 1.85 meters tall, he embodies the typical Portuguese attacking fullback style, though his defensive skills still need refinement.

Many experts compare Costa to Fiorentina’s Brazilian fullback Dodô, who coincidentally also played for Vitoria Guimaraes in the 2018-19 season. Costa’s offensive capabilities are evident in his stats, with 3 assists in 20 matches this season, including one in the Conference League victory against St. Gallen.

Having been with Vitoria Guimaraes since he was 10 years old, Costa became a regular starter under manager Daniel Sousa following his contract renewal in October. His rapid development and consistent performances sparked a competitive bidding war for his services, ultimately won by Juventus.

With his physical presence, attacking prowess, and potential for growth, Alberto Costa represents an exciting addition to Juventus’ squad, potentially shaping the club’s future in the fullback position.
