Giovanni Galeone, a close friend and mentor to Massimiliano Allegri, has hinted that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis may have approached the former Juventus manager about potentially taking over as head coach. This comes amid speculation that current Napoli boss Antonio Conte might depart after just one season, despite leading the team to a Serie A title.
Galeone shared insights from his recent communication with Allegri: “We exchanged messages recently. Though I didn`t pry, Allegri, ever the charming enigma, assured me no one had contacted him. But I have a feeling De Laurentiis has made an inquiry.”
Recalling a past encounter, Galeone noted, “Years back, when Allegri was coaching Milan, we were dining out when De Laurentiis appeared and whisked him away to his table. The mutual admiration was evident.”
Galeone believes Allegri would be an excellent fit for Napoli: “De Laurentiis recognizes Allegri as a safe bet. A transition from Conte to Allegri could mirror the successful handover at Juventus, which resulted in five consecutive league titles and two Champions League final appearances.”
Addressing the current situation, Galeone commented, “While the squad may not be the strongest, Conte has done remarkably well. However, Allegri`s adaptability makes him suitable for any club, including Napoli. He appreciates the team`s current roster.”
Reports suggest that Napoli is prepared to offer Allegri a two-year contract worth €6 million per season, signaling their serious interest in securing his services.
