Allegri: Milan Shows Great Spirit, Modric Utilizes Intelligence in 2-1 Win

Massimiliano Allegri praised AC Milan`s resilience after they secured a 2-1 victory over Napoli, despite playing with 10 men for part of the match. He particularly highlighted Luka Modric`s intelligent approach to regaining possession through interceptions.

The Rossoneri started strongly, taking a 2-0 lead within the first half-hour, thanks to Christian Pulisic`s impressive performance. Pulisic set up the first goal for Alexis Saelemaekers and scored the second himself.

However, the game`s dynamics shifted when Pervis Estupinan received a red card for fouling Giovanni Di Lorenzo. This led to Kevin De Bruyne converting a penalty, setting up a tense finish. David Neres nearly equalized in stoppage time, hitting the woodwork.

Allegri expressed satisfaction with the team`s performance, stating, “This was a crucial and challenging test against a quality Napoli side. We played excellently in the first half, but the red card complicated matters in the second. It gave us an opportunity to practice our defensive skills in situations where conceding chances is almost inevitable.”

He commended the players` efforts but emphasized the need to stay focused: “The team performed admirably, but this is just the beginning. We should enjoy tonight`s victory, then shift our focus to the next match before the international break.”

Allegri also noted the importance of the team`s ability to withstand pressure: “When you know how to endure difficult moments, it becomes easier to win if you possess this kind of spirit.”

Regarding tactical flexibility, Allegri mentioned, “We experiment with different formations in training to explore alternatives we can utilize during the season. We have various attacking players who can be deployed in different roles.”

The coach praised Luka Modric`s contribution, particularly in defense: “Having him in front of the defense not only adds quality but also intelligence in closing passing lanes. He`s more likely to win the ball through interceptions rather than tackles, which is extremely valuable.”

Looking ahead to the next fixture against Juventus, Allegri remarked, “It`s a bit unusual, as I`ve been on both sides of this rivalry. It`s always a spectacular match!”
