‘An exceptional team’: Robertson on PSG

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson believes that PSG is the strongest team Liverpool has faced so far this season. This statement comes after their Champions League RO16 first leg match on Wednesday, where Luis Enrique’s PSG impressed the Premier League leaders. Robertson told reporters, “They demonstrated their quality, proving themselves to be an exceptional team – possibly the best we’ve competed against this season.” Interestingly, PSG players reportedly felt surprised by Liverpool’s level, considering Arsenal or Bayern Munich, previous Champions League opponents, to be stronger.

Liverpool needed an outstanding goalkeeping display from Alisson Becker to avoid defeat at Parc des Princes. Fortunately for Liverpool, Harvey Elliott’s late goal in the 87th minute secured a one-goal advantage for the return leg at Anfield. Robertson acknowledged, “We need to perform better in the future as we cannot always expect Alisson to deliver such a phenomenal performance every game.”

Liverpool, accustomed to dominating games as the top team in the Champions League group stage and Premier League leaders with a significant 16-point lead over Arsenal, found themselves in an unusual position against PSG. Robertson admitted, “Indeed, it was an unfamiliar game for us in terms of possession difference and the number of shots taken by both sides.”
