Ancelotti Comments on Vinicius Jr’s Response to Manchester City Fans’ Banner
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti addressed the media regarding a banner displayed by Manchester City fans targeting Vinicius Jr before their Champions League clash. The Italian coach was uncertain whether the Brazilian forward had seen the banner, but suggested it may have served as motivation if he had.
Real Madrid secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie. Prior to the match, City supporters unfurled a large banner depicting midfielder Rodri holding the Ballon d’Or, accompanied by a message taunting Vinicius Jr.
When asked about Vinicius Jr’s potential reaction to the banner, Ancelotti responded with a smile, “I’m not sure if Vinicius noticed it during the game, but if he did, it likely provided him with extra motivation. He was constantly threatening on the pitch, as were all of our attacking players.”
Ancelotti further praised his team’s performance, noting their defensive solidity and offensive creativity. He emphasized Real Madrid’s special connection with the Champions League, citing the club’s rich history and tradition in the competition.
The manager also commented on Kylian Mbappé’s equalizing goal, confidently stating that the French striker’s volley was intentional despite its unusual trajectory.
Real Madrid’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure were highlighted by Ancelotti, who hopes this impressive display marks the beginning of a strong campaign in the tournament.
