Anderlecht to Acquire Lyon Defender Adryelson on Loan Deal
Brazilian center-back Adryelson, 26, is expected to depart Olympique Lyonnais this winter transfer window. The defender, who joined Lyon from Botafogo in January 2023, is likely to be loaned to Belgian club RSC Anderlecht for the remainder of the season. Anderlecht will have the option to make the transfer permanent for €5 million.
Adryelson has struggled to establish himself at Lyon, making only four appearances before being loaned back to Botafogo for six months at the start of this season. While Turkish club Trabzonspor had shown interest, it now appears Adryelson’s immediate future lies in Belgium.
Lyon’s Financial Motivations
The French club has been actively seeking to reduce its squad size during the current transfer window due to ongoing financial difficulties. Lyon is currently facing a transfer ban and the threat of relegation to Ligue 2 unless they can demonstrate improved financial health to the DNCG, French football’s financial regulatory body.
This loan move for Adryelson helps Lyon address some of their financial concerns while potentially opening the door for a permanent transfer in the future. For Anderlecht, it presents an opportunity to bolster their defensive options with an experienced Brazilian defender.
