In a recent interview, Mamadou Sakho, previously a defender for Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, shared his thoughts on PSG’s young team facing an away game at Anfield. This was before PSG’s 1-0 loss. To reach the Champions League quarter-finals, Luis Enrique’s team must overturn this deficit at the potentially electrifying Anfield in the upcoming week.
Sakho, who played for Liverpool from 2013 to 2017 and currently plays for FC Torpedo Kutaisi, described the unique atmosphere: “Anfield is more than just a game; it’s a special experience, like a gladiatorial arena. Liverpool at Anfield are incredibly powerful, like Popeye after eating spinach,” he joked.
He emphasized the lasting impact of playing at Anfield: “Ninety minutes there is something unforgettable. No matter what happens, PSG players will remember it and understand just how unique this stadium is,” Sakho concluded regarding Anfield. However, the former PSG player expressed confidence that the current PSG squad has the right personalities to handle the pressure. “Players like Marquinhos and Dembélé have the capability to manage this kind of match and atmosphere, and to guide the less experienced players.”
