Ange suggests £190k-per-week Tottenham star could be sidelined for Bodo/Glimt clash

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has provided an early team update ahead of the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt, indicating that a crucial player may be unavailable.

Europa League success critical for Ange

Following a disappointing 5-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, Tottenham finds themselves in 16th place with just four matches remaining in the Premier League season. However, Postecoglou’s position appears secure for now, given the team’s strong prospects in the Europa League.

Spurs advanced to the semi-finals after a 1-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. They now face Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt, who made history by becoming the first Norwegian club to reach a European semi-final after dramatically overcoming Lazio on penalties.

Postecoglou is hopeful to have Son Heung-min available for this crucial fixture, but the manager has suggested the forward may miss the first leg, stating: “It’s uncertain for Thursday. He’ll do his best to be ready. If not for the first match, we believe he’ll be fit for the second.”

Son’s absence would be significant for Tottenham

Despite Tottenham’s underwhelming Premier League campaign, Son has continued to impress, contributing seven goals and ten assists in 28 appearances. The £190,000-per-week attacker has been a standout performer under Postecoglou, who has previously described him as “incredible”.

Son’s potential absence could be a major blow for the crucial encounter against Bodo/Glimt. Nevertheless, given the quality gap between the Premier League and Norway’s Eliteserien, Tottenham should still have enough depth to progress past the semi-finals.

While there have been rumors about Postecoglou’s future, failure to reach the Europa League final would likely seal his fate, regardless of the competition’s outcome.
