Ansu Fati’s Comeback: A Fresh Start After 184 Days

Ansu Fati, the 22-year-old Barcelona forward, made an unexpected return to the starting lineup in La Liga after a 184-day absence. Manager Hansi Flick surprised everyone by giving Fati the nod against Mallorca at Montjuic, replacing Raphinha.

Fati’s last start in a league match dates back to October 20, 2024. Since then, he has mostly been limited to brief substitute appearances. His frustration peaked in the previous match against Celta Vigo, where he visibly expressed his anger after warming up but not being used.

From Frustration to Opportunity

Instead of punishing Fati for his outburst, Flick rewarded him with a starting position. This decision allowed the young player to channel his pent-up energy on the field and prove his worth.

Promising Performance Despite Inactivity

Although Fati’s career trajectory changed after a severe knee injury in 2020, he showed glimpses of his potential against Mallorca. Playing as a left winger, he demonstrated dynamism and good combination play with teammates. He managed three shots on goal, though unable to score.

Future Prospects

With the season nearing its end, it remains to be seen whether Flick will give Fati more playing time. So far this season, Fati has played only 253 minutes across 10 matches in all competitions. His performance against Mallorca may have opened the door for more opportunities in the remaining fixtures.
