Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, has voiced his strong opinion in support of Ligue 1, just before their Champions League Round of 16 first leg match against PSG. The Premier League leaders are set to face off against the Ligue 1 leaders in Paris this Wednesday.
During the pre-match press conference at Parc des Princes, the Dutch manager expressed his bewilderment at the views that dismiss the French top division as a weak league. Slot stated, “I hold the French league in high regard because of my extensive experience playing against French teams. I believe it is superior to several other leagues. It’s evident that French clubs have performed well historically, and their national team is among the world’s best.”
Slot had previously lauded Bruno Genesio’s performance as Lille’s head coach before Liverpool’s encounter with Les Dogues in the league stage. Liverpool faced considerable difficulty in securing a narrow 2-1 victory at home against a Lille team that was reduced to ten men. “We played against Lille, PSG played against Lille, and while they were leading 4-0 at halftime, we were only ahead 1-0. This comparison illustrates Lille’s strength,” Slot commented.
