Arsenal and Man United Inquire About Atalanta Striker Retegui
According to recent reports, Arsenal and Manchester United have reached out to Atalanta to discuss the potential transfer of Italian international forward Mateo Retegui.
The 25-year-old striker has been in outstanding form since joining Atalanta last summer, netting 20 goals in Serie A and 23 across all competitions so far this season. His impressive goalscoring run includes four strikes in Atalanta’s recent 5-0 victory over Hellas Verona.
Despite not yet completing a full season with the Bergamo club, Retegui has already attracted interest from several top European sides ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. French outlet Footmercato claims that in addition to Arsenal and Manchester United making direct contact, Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the striker’s situation.
Arsenal are in the market for a new center forward, especially given recent injuries to key attacking players. Meanwhile, Manchester United have a track record of signing strikers from Serie A, including Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in recent windows.
Retegui is under contract with Atalanta until 2028, but reportedly has a €50 million release clause. The Italian club paid €28 million including bonuses to acquire him from Genoa in 2024.
With his prolific form continuing, Retegui looks set to be one of the most sought-after strikers when the transfer window reopens this summer. Arsenal and Manchester United appear to be positioning themselves early in the race for his signature.
