Arsenal closing in on signing of “exciting” young talent as potential Lewis-Skelly teammate
Arsenal are reportedly making progress in their pursuit of Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan, who could become an ideal midfield partner for academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly in the future.
According to recent reports, Arsenal have held further talks to sign the 18-year-old Rosenborg midfielder and are now considered frontrunners for his signature. Nypan met with Arsenal officials on Sunday and the discussions appear to have gone well.
The Norwegian talent is expected to be available for around £10 million. While that represents a significant investment for such a young player, Nypan’s potential suggests he could be worth the outlay.
Why Nypan could be an ideal teammate for Lewis-Skelly
There are several reasons why signing Nypan could benefit both Arsenal and Lewis-Skelly specifically:
- At 18, Nypan is the same age as Lewis-Skelly, allowing them to develop together and build a strong on-field understanding over time.
- Nypan is primarily a central midfielder, while Lewis-Skelly has been playing as an inverted left-back this season. This could see them operating in close proximity on the pitch.
- Lewis-Skelly has previous experience playing in central midfield roles, so the two could potentially form a partnership in the middle of the park in the future.
With Nypan described as an “all-phase midfielder with the ability to control the pace of the game” and Lewis-Skelly demonstrating versatility across midfield positions, the pair could complement each other well as they progress into the first team.
While there is always risk in signing young players from outside Europe’s top leagues, Nypan is considered to have “world-class potential”. Alongside the promising Lewis-Skelly, manager Mikel Arteta could have an exciting midfield duo to build around for years to come.
