Arsenal confident of signing top European striker to upgrade on Havertz
Arsenal are reportedly confident of securing the signature of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer. The Swedish international has been in stellar form this season, scoring 47 goals and providing 11 assists in just 46 appearances across all competitions.
Gyokeres’ impressive goal return of 1.26 goal involvements per game far outpaces current Arsenal forward Kai Havertz, who has managed 15 goals and 5 assists in 34 matches. While Havertz has improved since moving into a striker role, Gyokeres could provide a significant upgrade in the position.
The 25-year-old Gyokeres has been described as “one of the hottest strikers in Europe” and would likely command a transfer fee of around €70 million (£60m). Though expensive, his prolific scoring rate suggests he could be transformational for Arsenal’s attack.
Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to add more firepower up front, with Gyokeres emerging as the top target. His potential arrival would likely relegate Havertz to a backup role, but could give Arsenal the elite goalscorer needed to challenge for major honors.
While the Portuguese league may be considered an easier level than the Premier League, Gyokeres’ numbers are so impressive that he would likely still outperform Havertz even accounting for the step up in competition. Arsenal appear ready to make a major statement in the transfer market by signing one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers.
