Arsenal Considering Bid for £40m “Unstoppable” Star as Potential New Sanchez

While major trophies have eluded them in recent years, Arsenal have featured some exceptional talent during the Emirates Stadium era. Players like Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla, Robin van Persie and Cesc Fàbregas were among the Premier League’s best during their time with the club. Currently, stars like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães are cementing their place as some of the top performers to grace the Emirates pitch.

However, when it comes to individual brilliance at Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez stands out above the rest. Now, the Gunners are reportedly eyeing a player who shares some similarities with the Chilean superstar.

According to recent reports, Arsenal are one of several clubs “weighing up a bid” for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku. The French attacker has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and appears likely to depart this summer. Arsenal face competition from Barcelona and multiple Bundesliga sides for Nkunku’s signature, with a price tag of around £40 million suggested.

While Nkunku’s Chelsea stint has been disappointing, Arsenal’s interest likely stems from his superb form in Germany with RB Leipzig. In his final season there, Nkunku tallied 23 goals and 9 assists in just 36 appearances across all competitions. This equates to a goal involvement every 85 minutes on average.

Beyond just his scoring prowess, Nkunku’s playing style and versatility draw comparisons to peak Sanchez. The Frenchman can operate effectively across the frontline, as an attacking midfielder, or second striker – similar to how Sanchez was deployed at Arsenal. Football analyst Zach Lowy described Nkunku’s “movement and pace” as an “unstoppable combination”, echoing traits that made Sanchez so dangerous.

Nkunku also mirrors Sanchez’s ability to both create and finish chances. During his time in Germany, he registered 55 assists to go along with 70 goals in 172 appearances.

While it’s unlikely Nkunku would immediately match Sanchez’s incredible Arsenal impact, there are clear parallels in their skillsets and versatility. If Mikel Arteta believes he can unlock Nkunku’s best form again, this could prove a shrewd piece of business for the Gunners – provided the price is right.
