Arsenal could sign world-class winger better than Isak and Williams
Arsenal’s recent Carabao Cup defeat highlighted their need for more attacking firepower. While Alexander Isak impressed for Newcastle, the Gunners have been linked with several forwards including Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.
However, AC Milan star Rafael Leao has emerged as a potentially superior option. Though his £145 million release clause is steep, Arsenal have reportedly approached his representatives about a possible summer move.
Leao could provide the explosive wing play Arsenal need to complement Bukayo Saka. His dribbling ability and goal threat make him an exciting prospect, with Milan coach Stefano Pioli comparing him to “an early Thierry Henry”.
Comparing Leao’s stats to Williams over the past two seasons shows the Portuguese winger outperforming in key areas:
- 12 goals vs 6 for Williams
- 50.7% take-on success rate vs 41.6%
- 2.20 key passes per 90 vs 1.98
- 4.13 progressive passes per 90 vs 2.83
While both are talented creators, Leao’s superior scoring and dribbling efficiency suggest he could provide the attacking boost Arsenal need on the left wing. His ability to beat defenders and progress the ball could take Arsenal’s attack to the next level.
Though a January move is unlikely, Leao appears to be a prime target for Arsenal to pursue in the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their forward options.
