Arsenal legend suggests surprise move for £64m Bayern Munich star

Former Arsenal player and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made a bold prediction about a potential high-profile signing for the Gunners. Merson believes Arsenal could target Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane in a surprising transfer move.

Arsenal failed to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, missing out on Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins despite a late £40 million bid. With Gabriel Martinelli now sidelined for over a month due to injury, joining Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus on the treatment table, Arsenal’s need for attacking reinforcements has become even more pressing.

While Arsenal have been linked with players like Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak, Merson suggested a more unexpected target – Tottenham legend Harry Kane. The England captain has been in superb form since joining Bayern Munich, recently becoming the fastest player to score 50 Bundesliga goals.

Merson pointed to Kane’s reported £64 million release clause, active from January 2026, as a potential opportunity for Arsenal. He compared it to Sol Campbell’s controversial move from Tottenham to Arsenal, saying: “Arsenal will buy him. Why not? £64m, why not. Sol Campbell did [make the move].”

The pundit argued that Kane’s proven quality is exactly what Arsenal need if they fail to win the league this season. He believes only a few clubs could afford Kane, making Arsenal a realistic destination despite his Tottenham connections.

While such a move would be highly controversial, Merson’s comments highlight the ongoing speculation around Arsenal’s striker search as they look to bolster their attack for next season’s title challenge.
