According to the Spanish media outlet Sport and journalist Ferran Correas, de Jong’s agent has received important proposals from Arsenal and other clubs about a possible move from Camp Nou this summer. However, since de Jong returned to the starting lineup, Barcelona has also started discussions to extend his contract, which expires next year.
Reports say that de Jong earns about £400,000 per week at Barcelona, and the club wants to extend his contract to avoid losing him for free or at a lower price this year.
It’s suggested that Barcelona might have to sell de Jong for just £34 million if they cannot agree on a new contract. This could be very tempting for Arteta, considering de Jong’s quality in midfield.
