Arsenal may regret selling promising striker now outperforming Havertz and Watkins
Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday boosted morale at the club, with Kai Havertz scoring an impressive goal. However, Havertz also missed a clear opportunity, highlighting Arsenal’s need for a reliable striker.
Despite being linked with forwards like Benjamin Sesko, Dusan Vlahovic and Ollie Watkins in January, Arsenal failed to sign a new striker. This decision looks even more questionable now, as a player they sold last summer is outscoring both Havertz and Watkins this season.
Danish striker Mika Biereth, who Arsenal sold to Sturm Graz for £4 million last summer, has been in excellent form. After impressing in Austria with 14 goals and 5 assists in 25 games, Biereth earned a £10.8 million move to Monaco in January.
Since joining Monaco, the 21-year-old has scored 4 goals with 1 assist in just 4 games. His total for the season now stands at 18 goals and 6 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
This impressive tally surpasses both Watkins (11 goals, 9 assists in 33 games) and Havertz (15 goals, 5 assists in 33 games) so far this season. While Biereth has played in weaker leagues, his form since moving to Ligue 1 suggests he could have been a valuable asset for Arsenal’s attack.
Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker in January now looks like a significant error. The club may come to regret selling a promising young forward who is currently outperforming their current attacking options. Biereth’s success raises questions about Arsenal’s judgment in the transfer market as they chase silverware this season.
