Arsenal Must Part Ways with Underperforming Striker Gabriel Jesus
Arsenal’s season so far has been disappointing, with the team currently sitting six points behind league leaders Liverpool. While injuries and some questionable refereeing decisions have played a role, much of the blame lies with poor individual performances from key players.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have both seen significant dips in form compared to last season. However, the biggest disappointment has been striker Gabriel Jesus. After joining for £45 million in 2022, Jesus made an immediate impact with 11 goals and 7 assists in his debut season. But his form has declined sharply since then.
This season, Jesus has managed just 1 goal and 2 assists in 20 appearances, mostly as a substitute. He looks a shadow of his former self, with particularly poor showings against Fulham, Monaco and Everton recently. For a player earning £265,000 per week as the squad’s second-highest earner, this level of performance is simply not acceptable.
While Jesus is undoubtedly talented, his regression over the past year shows no signs of reversing. Given his high wages and transfer fee, Arsenal should strongly consider selling the Brazilian striker as soon as possible to recoup some of their investment. His continued poor form is holding the team back as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title.
Manager Mikel Arteta needs to make the difficult decision to move on from Jesus and bring in a more consistent goalscoring threat up front. Arsenal cannot afford to keep an underperforming player on such high wages if they want to compete at the highest level. Selling Jesus would free up significant funds to reinvest in a striker more suited to take Arsenal to the next level.
