Arsenal is currently ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the competition to sign a highly-rated striker. This player has become Mikel Arteta’s primary target as the summer transfer window approaches, according to reports.
Arteta’s Striker Search
Mikel Arteta was known to be interested in acquiring a striker during the January transfer window. Ollie Watkins and Dušan Vlahović were among the forwards considered for a move to Arsenal. However, a deal for a new striker did not materialize at that time.
Since January, Arsenal’s aspirations for the title have faced setbacks, including Kai Havertz’s injury ruling him out for the rest of the season. Consequently, the club has shifted focus to securing a new striker in the upcoming summer window.
Plans are underway for discussions with Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan. Andrea Berta, expected to become the sporting director, is reportedly a strong admirer of Martinez. Victor Osimhen of Napoli is also a known target, with several Premier League clubs showing interest in the Nigerian player.
Another striker attracting considerable attention is Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. Recent reports indicate that Arsenal is prepared to compete with Tottenham for his signature.
However, sources suggest that Arsenal has gained an advantage over Tottenham in the pursuit of Sesko. The Gunners are now considered to be leading the race to sign him.
It is understood that Arsenal is among the frontrunners to sign the Slovenian striker, who has emerged as their top priority for the summer transfer window.
Despite being under contract with Leipzig until 2029, Sesko has a £58m release clause, making a summer transfer a strong possibility. It is also believed that Sesko would prefer a move to Arsenal over Tottenham.
‘Extraordinary’ Sesko Impressing in Germany
The 21-year-old Sesko has scored 17 goals for Leipzig across all competitions this season, including four in the Champions League before the team’s elimination. However, his contributions extend beyond just scoring goals.
Tony Cascarino has highlighted Sesko’s impressive dribbling skills, noting his ability to take on and beat defenders. Cascarino stated that Sesko’s combination of height and agility is unique, having seen him perform exceptionally even in wide positions, capable of dropping deep, collecting the ball, and driving past opponents.
Therefore, Arsenal’s strong position in the race to sign Sesko is encouraging news. A £58m release clause seems like a reasonable investment for a player who has the potential to lead Arsenal’s attack for the next decade.
