Arsenal target loan move for potential £100m “superstar” striker
Arsenal are exploring striker options for the January transfer window as they look to bolster their attack. One player reportedly of interest is Brighton & Hove Albion’s young forward Evan Ferguson.
The 20-year-old Irish striker has drawn comparisons to Harry Kane in recent years. Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge described Ferguson as “an Irish version of Harry Kane” in 2023, while Gary Lineker suggested Tottenham should sign him as Kane’s replacement.
Ferguson impressed in the 2022/23 season, scoring 10 goals and providing 3 assists in just 25 appearances. His average of a goal every 143 minutes as a teenager matched Wayne Rooney’s best tally.
While his output has dipped this season after injuries, Ferguson is still viewed as a hugely promising talent. Former pro Danny Murphy claimed he could become a “superstar” two years ago.
Arsenal are considering a loan move for Ferguson if Brighton sanction his departure. The Gunners would need to make it a permanent deal or return another loanee due to Premier League loan limits.
Signing the £30k-per-week forward could provide Arsenal with a Kane-esque striker for the future if he can recapture his best form. While not the big-name signing some fans crave, Ferguson represents an exciting long-term prospect for the Gunners’ attack.
