Arsenal Targets £58m “World-Class” Striker to Upgrade Attack
Arsenal is reportedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha as they look to bolster their attacking options. The Brazilian forward has been in excellent form this season and could provide an upgrade over current striker Gabriel Jesus.
According to reports, Wolves may be willing to sell Cunha for around £58 million. While a hefty price tag, Arsenal sees the 25-year-old as a potentially “world-class” addition who could take their attack to the next level.
Cunha has drawn comparisons to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp for his technical ability and creativity in attack. Former player Ashley Williams described Cunha’s style as “Dennis Bergkamp-esque” after a recent standout performance.
The stats back up Cunha’s quality, as he has outperformed Jesus in goal contributions over the past two seasons:
- Cunha: 24 goals, 12 assists in 55 appearances (goal involvement every 1.52 games)
- Jesus: 14 goals, 10 assists in 58 appearances (goal involvement every 2.41 games)
While Jesus has shown flashes of brilliance, Cunha has been more consistent and prolific in front of goal. His ability to both score and create could provide Arsenal with the clinical finisher they’ve been lacking.
Though the transfer fee would be substantial, Arsenal view Cunha as a potential game-changing signing who could elevate their attack for years to come. His versatility to play across the front line is also appealing.
As Arsenal look to challenge for trophies, bringing in a striker of Cunha’s caliber could be the missing piece to push them over the top. The Gunners will likely face competition for his signature, but appear ready to make a strong push to land the Brazilian star.
