Arsenal’s Interest in “World-Class” Striker Marcus Thuram

Gary Neville, a Sky Sports pundit, questioned Arsenal’s recruitment strategy before their 1-1 draw against Manchester United, pointing out the lack of a new striker signing in recent years as ‘poor recruitment’.

With Mikel Merino leading the attack against Manchester United due to Kai Havertz’s injury, Arsenal’s need for a prolific striker was evident. Merino struggled to find the net, marking his third consecutive game without a goal in the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus remains the only senior striker option for Mikel Arteta. However, Neville suggests Arteta might not be entirely convinced by the Brazilian, making the acquisition of a new forward a priority in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Among potential targets like Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen, reports from The Boot Room indicate that Arsenal scouts are also monitoring Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram.

Arsenal reportedly observed Thuram in a recent Champions League match, where he scored in Inter Milan’s 2-0 victory against Feyenoord. Scouts from Chelsea and Liverpool were also present, indicating potential competition for his signature should Arsenal pursue their interest.

However, securing Thuram will require a significant investment, as his contract includes a release clause just over £70 million. Inter Milan is keen to negotiate a new deal to remove or increase this clause.

Thuram: A “World-Class” Talent in Impressive Form

The 27-year-old Thuram has consistently contributed goals and assists for Inter Milan since his arrival from Borussia Mönchengladbach. He has followed up a strong first season by scoring 15 goals across all competitions this season, including two in the Champions League.

Except for an injury-affected 2021-22 season, Thuram has consistently performed in front of goal over the past six seasons and appears to be entering his prime, on track for his most productive season yet.

Thuram’s assist record is noteworthy and might be a reason why Arsenal legend Arsène Wenger compared him to Thierry Henry. Journalist Zach Lowy has also recently praised the Inter Milan forward.

Arsenal’s recent dip in form suggests the need for a high-caliber striker to challenge for the Premier League title next season, and Thuram’s current performances indicate he could be the player to fill that role.
