Arsenal’s Sporting Director Leading Pursuit of £60m Striker Target

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is personally driving the club’s efforts to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports. There is growing belief behind the scenes that the £60 million-rated Swedish international is becoming increasingly tempted by a potential move to North London.

Gyokeres has been in sensational form this season, netting an incredible 52 goals across all competitions for Sporting. His prolific scoring record has caught the attention of Arsenal’s recruitment team, with Berta said to be laying the groundwork for a summer move.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal have been informed Sporting would demand a total package worth around £60 million to part with their star striker. Given Gyokeres’ goalscoring exploits in Portugal this term, that fee could represent excellent value in the current market.

Sources claim Arsenal are now planning to hold formal talks with Gyokeres’ representatives to discuss personal terms. The Gunners are preparing a contract offer to present during these discussions as they look to convince the 26-year-old his future lies at the Emirates Stadium.

Gyokeres only joined Sporting from Coventry City last summer but has taken his game to new heights in Portugal. Some pundits have labeled the powerful forward as “underrated” and believe he is now ready to make the step up to an elite European club.

With Arsenal in need of a clinical goalscorer to lead the line next season, Gyokeres has emerged as Berta’s top target. The sporting director’s hands-on approach to the pursuit suggests Arsenal are determined to get their man when the transfer window opens.
