Arteta Has Internal Options to Strengthen Arsenal’s Attack Without Gyokeres
While Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta may be interested in signing a striker like Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres this summer, there are potential solutions already within the club that could save millions in transfer fees.
Newcastle’s Isak has been in stellar form this season with 23 goals in 33 matches, but his reported £150 million price tag makes a deal highly unlikely. Sporting’s Gyokeres is another target, but Arsenal have interesting internal options to consider as well.
Repositioning Gabriel Martinelli
Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli has experience playing as a central striker earlier in his Arsenal career. He scored 9 goals in 16 appearances as a center forward, including a brace on his first start against Nottingham Forest in 2019. His pace and finishing ability could translate well to a more central role.
Promoting Ethan Nwaneri
18-year-old academy product Ethan Nwaneri has impressed when given opportunities this season, scoring 8 goals including 2 in the Champions League. Though primarily used as a winger recently, Nwaneri’s natural position is as an attacking midfielder or striker. He scored 10 goals in 8 games as a center forward for Arsenal’s U18 side.
While signing an established striker like Isak would be ideal, Arteta has promising internal options to consider before spending big in the transfer market. Repositioning Martinelli or further integrating Nwaneri could provide a solution up front without requiring a major signing.
