AS Roma`s sporting director Frederic Massara has confirmed that the club has ceased negotiations with Jadon Sancho, citing a lack of motivation from the player. Additionally, he announced that Lorenzo Pellegrini is set to leave the club in the near future.
Speaking to DAZN before Roma`s Serie A opener against Bologna, Massara addressed the ongoing transfer speculations surrounding the club.
Sancho Transfer Talks Discontinued
Regarding Jadon Sancho, Massara stated, “Sancho is undoubtedly a talented player who has been linked with various Italian clubs. However, at present, it appears that the conditions and, more importantly, the motivation to proceed with negotiations are not in place.”
Pellegrini`s Departure Imminent
On the topic of Lorenzo Pellegrini, Massara revealed, “I`ve had discussions with his agent, and we`ve mutually agreed not to extend his contract. To avoid losing him on a free transfer and considering Lorenzo`s wishes, we are exploring options. If a suitable opportunity doesn`t arise in the next eight days, his departure will likely occur in January.”
Pellegrini, who previously captained Roma, will not retain the armband for the 2025-26 season. Recent reports have linked him with a potential move to West Ham United.
These developments come as Roma embarks on a new era under the guidance of newly appointed coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Meanwhile, Bologna has retained Vincenzo Italiano following their Coppa Italia triumph last season.
The Serie A season has already kicked off, with Napoli securing a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo and Lecce drawing 0-0 with Genoa in the opening fixtures.
