Aston Villa Closes in on Blockbuster Signings Rashford and Asensio
Aston Villa are on the verge of completing some major transfer business as the January window draws to a close. The club is in advanced negotiations to bring in both Marcus Rashford from Manchester United and Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain on loan deals.
These potential moves come on the heels of striker Jhon Duran’s lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr earlier this week. Villa’s sporting director Monchi confirmed the club is actively seeking replacements, stating: “Regarding the players we’re considering and the profile Unai [Emery] wants, Félix and Asensio are similar types that appeal to him.”
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Villa are “very close” to finalizing a loan agreement for Rashford. The England international could potentially cost around £40 million if the deal includes a purchase option. Importantly, Romano notes that “Asensio remains a separate target from Rashford for Aston Villa.”
Negotiations with PSG for Asensio are ongoing, with the Spanish forward now available for loan following another PSG transfer. Villa appear determined to significantly bolster their attacking options as they push for European qualification.
These high-profile pursuits demonstrate the ambition of Villa’s ownership and manager Unai Emery. Signing established stars like Rashford and Asensio would be a major statement of intent from the Midlands club as they look to cement their place among the Premier League’s elite.
