Aston Villa Eye Stunning Move for Kevin De Bruyne
According to recent reports, Aston Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne when his contract expires this summer. The Premier League club have held internal discussions about bringing in the Belgian superstar on a free transfer.
De Bruyne, 33, is set to leave Manchester City after a legendary stint at the Etihad Stadium. Despite his advancing years, the playmaker remains one of the league’s top creative forces, registering 3 goals and 7 assists this season.
Villa are looking to strengthen their attacking midfield options and view De Bruyne as a potential world-class addition. However, they face stiff competition for his signature, with several MLS clubs also interested.
The Belgian international has been a dominant force in English football, amassing an incredible 121 assists and 71 goals in 284 Premier League appearances. His vision, passing range and ability to dictate play could take Villa to the next level under Unai Emery.
While no longer in his prime, De Bruyne’s statistics remain elite. He ranks in the 97th percentile for assists and progressive passes per 90 minutes among midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year.
A move for De Bruyne would be a major statement of intent from Villa as they look to establish themselves as regular European contenders. However, his wage demands could prove a stumbling block in negotiations.
With his family settled in England, De Bruyne may prefer to remain in the Premier League rather than move abroad at this stage of his career. This gives Villa genuine hope of pulling off what would be one of the coups of the summer transfer window.
