Aston Villa Eyeing Potential £46m Move for “Aggressive” Atalanta Forward

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui as they look to strengthen their attacking options. The Italian club values Retegui at around £46 million (€55 million).

Villa’s interest comes as they aim to close the gap on the Premier League’s top four teams. The club currently sits 9th in the table after an inconsistent first half of the season.

Retegui has been in excellent form this season, helping propel Atalanta to the top of Serie A. Villa scouts have already been watching the striker closely as he continues to impress in Italy.

If signed, Retegui would join Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran to form a formidable strikeforce at Villa Park. Manager Unai Emery may need to adjust his tactics to accommodate multiple top-class forwards.

Described as an “aggressive” player by analysts, Retegui has outscored both Watkins and Duran so far this season:

2024/25 League Stats Retegui Duran Watkins
Goals 12 7 7
Assists 3 0 3
Expected Goals 8.7 4.8 8.8

Adding Retegui could give Villa one of the strongest groups of strikers in the Premier League. His arrival may prompt Emery to experiment with formations that accommodate multiple forwards as the club pushes for Champions League qualification.
