Aston Villa plans to sign £25m+ replacement for Duran
Following reports that Jhon Duran is set to join Al-Nassr for £64 million before the transfer window closes, Aston Villa is reportedly looking to sign a replacement valued at £25 million or more.
According to Turkish journalist Yakub Cinar, as reported by Haber Sabrikirmizi and relayed by Sport Witness, Aston Villa is now considering a move for Galatasaray forward Baris Alper Yilmaz. West Ham United previously had a £25 million bid for Yilmaz rejected earlier this month.
With increased financial resources from Duran’s sale, Villa may be able to make Galatasaray an offer they can’t refuse before Monday’s deadline. Villa’s sporting director Monchi is reportedly a big fan of Yilmaz, which could play a significant role in their pursuit either this month or in the summer.
While Ollie Watkins remains Villa’s primary striker, Yilmaz could potentially replace Duran’s goal-scoring contributions off the bench. The Turkish international impressed at Euro 2024 and has continued his strong form with Galatasaray this season.
Former Turkey international Selcuk Inan praised Yilmaz’s potential, stating: “Baris Alper Yilmaz can play comfortably for many Premier League teams right now. He’s a very special player with a lot of potential. If he improves his final ball, he could easily play for top clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Arsenal.”
As the transfer window nears its close, it remains to be seen whether Villa will make a move for Yilmaz or explore other options to bolster their attacking options following Duran’s departure.
