Atalanta have reportedly reached an agreement with Southampton to sign winger Kamaldeen Sulemana for a total fee of €21 million. The deal will see Sulemana reunite with new Atalanta manager Ivan Juric.
According to transfer reports, the two clubs have agreed on terms for the Ghana international. The transfer is said to include a fixed fee of €17 million plus €4 million in potential performance-related bonuses. Southampton will also retain a 15% sell-on clause for any future transfer of Sulemana from Atalanta.
Versatile Attacker Joins Atalanta`s Project
The 23-year-old Sulemana is a versatile attacking player capable of playing as a left winger, second striker or even center forward when needed. He only joined Southampton from Stade Rennes in January 2023 for €25 million on a contract through 2027.
However, Southampton`s relegation from the Premier League has forced them to sell Sulemana for a reduced price after just half a season at the club. During the 2022-23 campaign, he made 30 appearances for Southampton across all competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.
Reuniting with Juric at Atalanta
The move to Atalanta will see Sulemana link up again with Ivan Juric, who managed Southampton for part of last season before their relegation. Juric has just taken over as Atalanta`s new head coach, tasked with building on the club`s success under previous manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Atalanta are looking to reinforce their attack as they aim to compete in Serie A and European competitions next season. The signing of the talented young Sulemana represents an exciting addition to their squad as they begin a new era under Juric`s leadership.
