Atalanta Initiates Contact for Liverpool’s Underutilized £12m+ Signing
According to Italian newspaper L’Eco di Bergamo, Serie A frontrunners Atalanta have taken preliminary steps to gauge the availability of Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa. The Italian international has seen limited action since his £12.5 million summer transfer to Anfield, managing just 18 minutes of Premier League play due to injuries and competition for spots.
Atalanta are said to be considering an initial loan offer with a potential purchase option. However, Chiesa’s wages could present an obstacle that would require negotiation with Liverpool. Despite his lack of playing time, Reds manager Arne Slot recently praised Chiesa’s performance after a substitute appearance in a Carabao Cup victory.
Slot acknowledged Chiesa showed “some really good moments” while noting areas for improvement, which he deemed normal for a player returning from a lengthy absence. The manager expressed satisfaction at seeing Chiesa back in action and displaying positive glimpses.
As Liverpool pursue potential January additions like Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Sporting’s Geovany Quenda, Chiesa’s future at the club remains uncertain. His situation will be one to monitor as the transfer window approaches.
