Atalanta’s Injury Crisis Deepens as Key Players Face Setbacks
Atalanta’s squad depth is being severely tested as injuries continue to mount for the Serie A side. In their recent 1-1 draw against Torino, the team faced multiple setbacks, with goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi and defender Sead Kolasinac both forced to withdraw due to muscular issues. Adding to their woes, striker Gianluca Scamacca, who was making his long-awaited return after a six-month absence, reportedly experienced discomfort shortly after entering the match.
The unfortunate series of events began even before kickoff, as Carnesecchi sustained a thigh injury during warm-up, necessitating a last-minute replacement by Rui Patricio. The situation worsened when Kolasinac had to be substituted in the first half due to a similar thigh problem, with Rafael Toloi taking his place.
While Scamacca’s return to action after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear was initially seen as a positive development, manager Gian Piero Gasperini revealed in a post-match interview that the forward experienced thigh discomfort shortly after coming on as a substitute. This new concern will require further medical evaluation.
These latest injury concerns compound Atalanta’s existing personnel issues, as the team is already without key players Ademola Lookman, Giorgio Scalvini, and Odilon Kossounou. The accumulating injuries pose a significant challenge for Gasperini as he attempts to navigate a crucial period in the season with a depleted squad.
