The talented defender made 48 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 campaign, earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season. Ruggeri has represented Italy at all youth levels and received his first senior call-up in March 2025 for a Nations League match against Germany, though he is yet to make his full international debut.
According to Italian sources, Atletico Madrid paid approximately €20 million to secure Ruggeri`s services. The 22-year-old leaves Atalanta having made 99 Serie A appearances for the club, providing 9 assists. He also featured 9 times for Atalanta in the Champions League.
Atletico Madrid expressed their excitement at the signing, welcoming Ruggeri to the club as they look to strengthen their defensive options for the upcoming season. The move represents a significant step in the young Italian`s career as he makes the switch to one of Spain`s top clubs.
