Atletico Madrid’s Transfer Targets for Next Season
Atletico Madrid is already planning for the next season after a disappointing current campaign. The club’s sporting directors are looking to strengthen the squad and raise the team’s competitive level. However, they are aware that player sales will be necessary to fund new acquisitions.
Alex Baena: Top Priority for Atletico
Alex Baena, the 23-year-old Villarreal midfielder, is a primary target for Atletico Madrid. The club views him as a crucial addition to their midfield. Baena’s current contract with Villarreal runs until 2028, and his market value is around 50 million euros. Atletico is considering various options to make the deal feasible, including potentially offering Rodrigo Riquelme as part of the transfer.
Cristian Romero: Defensive Reinforcement
Another player on Atletico’s radar is Tottenham’s Cristian Romero. The club has already made initial contact regarding the Argentine center-back. Strengthening the defense is a priority for Atletico, but negotiating with Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy is expected to be challenging. Romero’s market value is estimated at 55 million euros.
Angel Correa Leading the Departures
Angel Correa, who has made 461 appearances for Atletico Madrid, is likely to leave the club. The 30-year-old striker has been pushed to a secondary role and is seeking more playing time. Atletico is asking for 20 million euros for Correa, with interest from clubs in South America and Europe.
Other players expected to depart include Samu Lino and Juan Musso. The club will evaluate the status of several other first-team players at the end of the season to determine their futures.
