Auxerre Sets New Club Record with Fifth Consecutive Ligue 1 Home Draw

AJ Auxerre’s promising start to the Ligue 1 season has taken a turn for the worse, as the team continues to search for their first win in 2025. The reigning Ligue 2 champions initially impressed in the top flight, securing six victories in their first 12 matches and displaying particularly strong form at home.

Under the guidance of manager Christophe Pélissier, Auxerre won five of their first six Ligue 1 home games at Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps. However, their recent form has declined significantly. Sunday’s 2-2 draw against FC Toulouse marked their fifth consecutive home draw, setting a new club record in the competition.

This result also extended Auxerre’s winless streak to 10 matches across all competitions, with the team failing to capitalize on leads in their last three league games. Despite opening the scoring, they squandered two second-half advantages against Toulouse.

Auxerre’s fortunes have drastically changed since December 2024, when they were in contention for an unexpected European spot. Their nine-game winless run in the league has seen them drop to 11th place, now sitting nine points behind a Europa Conference League position after 21 matchdays.

The team’s current situation is precarious, with only six points separating them from the relegation playoff spot occupied by AS Saint-Étienne, and seven points from the automatic relegation place held by Le Havre AC.

This five-match home draw streak in Ligue 1 surpasses Auxerre’s previous record of three consecutive home games without a win from the 2023-24 season. The last time the club went six straight Ligue 1 home fixtures without a victory was in the 2007-08 season when they narrowly avoided relegation.

Auxerre’s next challenge at home comes on February 22nd against Olympique de Marseille, who boast the best away record in the league with eight victories. As the season progresses, Auxerre will need to rediscover their winning form to secure their place in Ligue 1 for another year.
