Montpellier HSC has officially announced the acquisition of Bamo Meïté, aged 23, from Olympique de Marseille on a loan agreement. The deal includes an option for Montpellier to permanently purchase the player at the end of the current season.
Montpellier’s interest in securing the defender on loan has been ongoing for several weeks. Initially, they were aiming for a simple loan arrangement without a purchase option. However, Marseille insisted on including an option to buy in the deal.
As the transfer window deadline approached, Montpellier adjusted their strategy and agreed to the inclusion of a purchase option for their priority target. This shift in approach facilitated the final agreement between the two clubs from southern France.
Meïté is seeking increased playing time, as his opportunities at Marseille diminished under the management of head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Meanwhile, Montpellier is in urgent need of strengthening their defense, currently positioned near the bottom of Ligue 1, just one point above the relegation zone.
