Barcelona Appeals to CSD for Provisional Player Registration
Barcelona FC has submitted an urgent appeal to Spain’s Higher Council of Sports (CSD) seeking provisional measures to allow the registration of players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. This represents the club’s final administrative recourse to enable the two players to participate in upcoming matches.
The decision now rests with the Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes. Upon receiving Barcelona’s request, the CSD will review the documentation before issuing a ruling. The club hopes to secure temporary clearance for both Olmo and Victor to play for the remainder of the season, following rejections from La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation to process new registrations. A decision from the CSD is expected by the end of the week.
Currently, neither Olmo nor Victor possess valid licenses to play, as their previous registrations expired on December 31. While ineligible for selection, they are permitted to travel with the squad. As such, Barcelona has included them in the traveling party for the Spanish Supercup in Jeddah, anticipating a favorable CSD ruling in the coming days.
Barcelona faces Athletic Bilbao in the Supercup semifinal on January 8, a match for which Olmo and Victor remain unavailable. The club’s objective is to secure their eligibility for a potential final, should they advance past Athletic and receive the CSD’s approval.
If the CSD denies Barcelona’s request for provisional measures, the club is prepared to pursue the matter through the regular court system, despite having already received two unfavorable rulings in previous attempts.
