Barcelona Dominates Real Madrid to Win Spanish Super Cup
Barcelona delivered a stunning performance to defeat Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final on January 12, 2025.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the 5th minute, but Barcelona responded with a flurry of goals. Lamin Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute before Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty in the 36th minute to put Barcelona ahead. Raphinha extended the lead just three minutes later.
Alejandro Balde made it 4-1 deep into first-half stoppage time. Raphinha scored his second early in the second half to give Barcelona a commanding 5-1 advantage. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo pulled one back in the 60th minute, but it was too little too late.
Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off in the 56th minute for a foul on Mbappe, forcing the Catalans to play with 10 men for over 30 minutes. However, they held on comfortably to secure the trophy.
This marks Barcelona’s 15th Spanish Super Cup title, extending their record as the most successful club in the competition’s history. Real Madrid remains second with 13 titles to their name.
