Barcelona star’s agent visits Manchester as United weigh up potential deal
The representative of a highly-rated player who impressed at Euro 2024 has been seen in England, as Manchester United and INEOS consider making a move for his signature.
United’s disappointing Premier League campaign continued on Boxing Day with a 2-0 defeat at Wolves, leaving them languishing in 14th place. New manager Ruben Amorim has struggled to make an immediate impact since taking charge at Old Trafford.
With Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury issues, United are in the market for a new left-back. PSG’s Nuno Mendes is reportedly high on their list of targets. The 22-year-old Portuguese international is regarded as one of Europe’s top fullbacks, having registered 3 assists in 6 UEFA Nations League appearances.
United are also said to be confident of securing a deal for Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez as an alternative option at left-back.
Representative of ‘exceptional’ United target arrives in England
According to reports, Manchester United and INEOS are interested in signing Barcelona’s Dani Olmo on a potential free transfer. The player’s agent flew to Manchester on Boxing Day as Premier League clubs look to capitalize on Barcelona’s financial difficulties.
Barcelona were only able to sign the Spanish international on a temporary deal until the end of 2024 for £50m last summer. They had hoped to make the move permanent on January 1st, but their financial constraints may open the door for other clubs.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also mentioned as possible destinations for Olmo should he become available on a free transfer in the new year.
The 26-year-old was one of the standout performers at Euro 2024, helping Spain win the tournament with 3 goals and 2 assists. Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has praised Olmo as an “outstanding footballer” with “exceptional abilities” and composure on the ball.
Olmo’s attacking quality and versatility could make him an ideal signing for United as they look to bolster their offensive options. His ability to play as an attacking midfielder or on the left flank, combined with his work rate, could see him emerge as a potential long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes.
