Barella: Inter Still in Contention for Three Trophies
Following Inter’s unexpected 1-0 loss to Bologna, which allowed Napoli to draw level at the top of Serie A, Nicolò Barella remains resolute in his belief that the Nerazzurri can still achieve success on multiple fronts this season.
“Losing is always difficult to accept,” Barella told reporters after the match. “While we’re dealing with a busy schedule and fatigue, that’s not an excuse. It’s unacceptable for a team of our caliber to concede such a goal when we had numerical superiority in the box. We must improve, as football is unforgiving.”
Despite the setback, Barella maintains that Inter’s aspirations for a treble are still alive. The team faces crucial matches in the coming weeks, including a Champions League semi-final against Barcelona and a Coppa Italia semi-final clash with city rivals Milan.
“We must never become complacent,” Barella emphasized. “There’s always room for improvement. We’re competing on three fronts and giving our all. These setbacks are painful, but nothing is settled yet. We’re still joint leaders with Napoli in Serie A.”
The midfielder acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about Inter’s chances. “It will be a tough battle, but we’re determined to fight on all fronts. We won’t give up now.”
Inter’s depth will be tested in the coming fixtures, with injuries to key players like Piotr Zielinski and Denzel Dumfries, as well as suspensions for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alessandro Bastoni in the upcoming Roma match.
Barella concluded, “Fatigue is certainly a factor, especially with limited rotation options in midfield due to Zielinski’s absence. However, we’re not holding back. Our goal is to win – that’s the mentality we’ve cultivated over recent years, and one defeat won’t change that. We’ll regroup and prepare for the derby, focusing on what we do best – winning.”
