Bayern Munich’s Renewal Campaign
Bayern Munich’s sporting management has been diligently working on player retention as 2025 begins. With up to eight players at risk of departing, the club has already secured new contracts for three key members.
Seven players were set to become free agents in June: Alphonso Davies, Eric Dier, Sven Ulreich, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, and Manuel Neuer. Additionally, Jamal Musiala’s contract, expiring in 2026, made him an attractive target for the upcoming transfer window. By mid-February, the German giants had successfully extended contracts for three crucial players: Davies, Neuer, and Musiala.
Captain Manuel Neuer was the first to renew, extending his stay until 2026. Alphonso Davies surprised many by committing to the club until 2030, despite rumors linking him to Real Madrid. The latest to sign was 21-year-old Jamal Musiala, who also extended until 2030, cementing his status as a franchise player.
Thomas Müller’s future remains uncertain. While the club expects to offer a one-year extension, potentially his last, reports suggest he may be considering an offer from MLS. Eric Dier’s prospects have dimmed with the arrival of new management, while Sven Ulreich is likely to depart as the club seeks alternatives to Neuer.
Joshua Kimmich’s situation is particularly intriguing. The world-class midfielder has stated he will decide his future this winter, with Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly interested. Leroy Sané’s role in the team has diminished, and his high salary complicates renewal discussions. However, sporting director Christoph Freund has expressed the club’s intention to extend Sané’s contract.
As Bayern Munich continues its renewal operation, having secured nearly half of its at-risk players, the coming weeks will be crucial in shaping the team’s future roster.
